Are you thinking or planning a Round The Word (RTW) Trip in the future? It can be tough choosing which countries and places to visit on your mega trip. We’ve hand picked our very favourite places around the world that you cannot miss. These 8 places should be on everyones itinerary, even if you’re not planning a RTW Trip, you should definitely add these to your bucket list/future travel plans.
Without further ado:
Kruger National Park, South Africa
When you think of going on safari, you most likely think of Kruger. It’s not only home to the Big Five, but also pretty much any African animal you can think of. We love, that no matter what you like about being on safari, you’ll find it here. Paved roads and good infrastructure in the South, to less accessible areas further north or complete wilderness near the border of Zimbabwe. Plus, you can either go on guided game drives and walks or drive your own hired car through the park. Its one of our favourite places in the world to date!
Budapest, Hungary
We LOVE Budapest, make sure to include it on your RTW Trip, as its one of the cheapest cities in Europe, its generally a very beautiful city and its got great nightlife! We could name a lot more, but we’d love you to find that out for yourselves! Its home to some of the most beautiful thermal spas on earth, world famous ruin bars and the magical Parliament building. We stayed at an Airbnb in the heart of the city, which was an excellent choice, as it meant we ate at local restaurants, met local people and saved a tonne of money doing it, whilst having our own apartment! Koh Phangan, Thailand
Undoubtably our favourite island in the world. It really is paradise on earth, despite holding the infamous Full Moon Party every month (which is another reason why we love it!). Beautiful secluded beaches to the North, great lively hostels and of course Haad Rin Beach if you want to party. This island really has it all. Throw in some amazing and cheap Thai food and you won’t want to leave. It’s no surprise Yannick ended up here for 4 months!
Australia, Road Trip
First off, you just can’t miss off Australia from your RTW trip, its basically a crime. However, as your time may be limited, it’ll be very difficult to explore the whole country due to its size. Home to snowy mountains, barren landscapes, deserts, beaches and rainforests, its certainly a continent in itself. Our favourite places that you must go are: Sydney, The Great Ocean Road, Byron Bay, The Whitsundays, The Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock. These can all be reached (apart from Ayers Rock) by driving up the East Coast, which is very popular for travellers and backpackers. If you have more time of hand, venture out into the real outback, and explore the Kimberly and Kakadu National Park.
New Zealand, All Of It!
New Zealand, like Australia is full of mind blowing natural beauty wherever you go. Glaciers on the South Island to the buzzing Metropolis of Auckland on the North Island. The country is packed full of dramatic landscapes with picturesque mountains and pristine lakes, it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The best way to get around is by hiring/buying an RV or car, depending on your length of stay. This makes yourself flexible, as we guarantee you’ll find lots of places you won’t want to hurry or leave!
Machu Picchu, Peru
Machu Picchu is one of the seven modern Wonders of the World, and is as stunning and jaw-stopping as people say it is. Built by the Inca’s in the 1400’s this modern wonder is as impressive as they get. Do take the long trek along the Inca Trail, it’s well worth it in the end, even though it might not seem like it at the time. So if you’re off to South America on your RTW Trip, this is a must do.
Angkor Wat, Cambodia

No trip to Cambodia is complete without visiting Angkor Wat, located in Siem Reap. Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world and was originally created as a Hindu temple for the Khmer empire. With so much history and culture embedded throughout the site, the complexity of it will leave mind blown. Make sure to arrive for sunrise, and hire a tuk-tuk to take you round the complex, but do be aware of common scams.
Fiji
When you think of swaying palm trees, pristine beaches and a friendly local atmosphere you think that’s pretty much paradise right? Well then I guess you could say that’s Fiji for you! A great stopover from Oceania to North America, Fiji is one of those places you never want to leave, although you may be sick of hearing ‘Bula’ every 10 seconds! It is also without a doubt the best budget island in the Pacific, and one of the best for young travellers.
When you’re planning an RTW trip, there is so much more to think about than just where you want to go. You’ll need to think carefully on what you need to pack inside of what you want to pack. Plus, you’ll be able to buy lots of clothing, toiletries etc on the road, so don’t be too worried if you forget something. Make sure not to pack too heavy as you don’t want to be constantly aching and wishing you had packed lighter on the road.
Make sure to get quality travel insurance, that will include every activity/country you are visiting. We highly recommend World Nomads, we use them on every trip and wouldn’t use anyone else. If you’re robbed and had gear taken, or your expensive camera breaks in the middle of nowhere, travel insurance will always have your back.
