Ubud is one of the most popular destinations in Bali. It become popular due to the movie Eat, Pray, Love. Ubud itself is a great little town up in the foothills roughly an hours drive from the coast. If you’re wanting some authentic Balinese culture, relaxation, some of the best yoga practices in the world and hippy cafes this may be the place for you. Not to mention Ubud has some of the best hostels in Bali and arguably the world. There are so many to choose from, and having lived in Bali previously and visited a total of 12 times, I’ve written an in-depth guide to the best hostels in Ubud.

Top Tip: If you’re planning to travel to Bali or anywhere. I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to have decent travel insurance – especially if you plan on riding a scooter! I always use World Nomads on my travels and wouldn’t recommend anyone else for backpackers and long term travelers.

If you’re wanting a luxury hostel that has everything, from a swimming pool to free yoga classes to live music then Puri Garden is perfect. Located right in the centre of Ubud, only a few minutes walk to all the shops, cafes and the famous Yoga Barn it’s fairly premium price tag pays for itself ten fold.
This hostel is also home to a large community of expats, yogis, and digital nomads, many who prefer to live here for months at a time or year round, so you’ll easily find friendly and welcoming people to connect with.
The hostel also puts on entertainments like BBQ nights, Balinese dance nights and movie nights. In addition a variety of day trips can be organised as well as airport transfers to and from Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar.
They’ve also been voted as one of the most luxury hostels in the world by Hostelworld! So if you are looking for quality rather than price, you found your place as probably one of the best hostels in Ubud!

Lagas Hostel
With dorm rooms starting at just USD$5 it’s a great option for those on a budget but also wanting to be a 10 minute walk into Ubud as well as have a friendly atmosphere with a pool to cool down in. They even offer free breakfast in the morning, free wifi in all rooms and all dorm rooms are cleaned every day. The swimming pool is also complete with a waterfall which gives you a great opportunity for the perfect Instagram photo.
They also provide English-speaking staff, tour bookings, a cafe, air conditioning in every room, laundry service and you can rent scooters from the hostel itself.

Before you think this is THE place to party, Ubud isn’t a party destination. Therefore there isn’t a proper party hostel here. However, if you’re looking for a place that you will make friends for life, a great community and staff that will go out of your way to help you then Puji Hostel may be the one for you. Unwind in the pool, hang out in the common area or walk into the centre of Ubud.
It’s possible to book all your trips with them including the Mt. Batur Sunrise trek. The dorm rooms have lockers for your valuables so it’s very secure. A great choice in Ubud if you’re a solo traveller wanting to meet others.

If you’re wanting to be surrounded by lush tropical rice fields and terraces Ubud Rice Fields House is the best hostel for you. You’ll be able to enjoy wild nature with paddy rice fields, beautiful gardens, marvellous mountains and typical tropical bamboo houses all round, and still be within just a 5 minute walk of central Ubud! Wayans Family Hostel
Located right in the heart of central Ubud, Wayan Family Hostel is an affordable, cozy and friendly hostel with a stones throw of central Ubud, in fact you’re already in the heart of it all staying here! With just 6 mixed dorm rooms, 2 standard double rooms and for group-travelers a 4 big family room, it’s the perfect boutique hostel location in the rice fields but within close proximity to all Ubuds main attractions like the markets and Monkey Forest. Due to it’s small size it’s a great place to just chill, make new friends and lounge by the pool soaking up the sun.
In addition, if you’re wanting a classic Balinese style, resembling the unique Hindu temples the island is known for this hostel is perfect as all rooms and the interior decor is exactly this.

Arya Hostel Nyuh Kuning
This brand new luxury hostel in Ubud only opened it’s door to guests a few weeks ago, and wow what can I say! Probably the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing hostel so far in Ubud. However, as it’s so new there are very few reviews on Hostelworld, Tripadvisor etc. The current rating is 10/10 though!
Arya Nyuh Kuning is a little oasis hostel hidden in a very peaceful and quiet street just behind Monkey Forest and a few steps from the main sights, shops and restaurants in Ubud. Designed to be one of the coolest hostels in Bali, with a boho chic style in white concrete, natural wood and lush gardens all around our swimming pool, rooftop and lounge area. They offer daily free yoga, day trips, bbq nights, airport transfer, high speed internet and a healthy & tasty breakfast by Ubudian Cafe.
Honestly this is a hostel to watch in the coming years, and I already want to stay here!

Indraprastha Homestay
If dorm rooms aren’t really for you or you’re travelling as a couple it may be cheaper to book a homestay instead of two beds in a dorm. This homestay offers budget accommodation at a reasonable price, within walking distance of the heart of Ubud and approximately a 90 minutes drive from Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport.
At Indraprastha Homestay you will enjoy spacious rooms with en suite bathroom with cold and hot water, fan and most of them have their own private balcony which overlooks their lush garden.
