At least since the Hangover II, Bangkok is especially famous for its amazing sky bars. However, if you decide to go to the one that they filmed the movie at, chances are you’ll be paying 20 to 30 USD on a single drink. Or you just won’t buy any. But that’s not really the point of going to a bar, is it?
When we were in Bangkok in January 2015, we found a hidden gem that few people seem to know about, and even fewer seem to write about it. We’re talking about the ZOOM Sky Bar & Restaurant. It sits atop of the luxurious five star hotel Anantara Bangkok Sathorn and offers both reasonable food and drink prices. It’s really just as stylish as the famous ones, but it won’t be overcrowded with people. Plus, you’ll be able to actually enjoy your drinks without thinking about the money too much, even being on a tight budget.
Best of all though, they offer a great happy hour as well: From 5:30pm to 8pm you buy 1 get 1 free. That means, each cocktail you drink will set you back around 4 to 6 USD. Really not too bad for this setting right? ZOOM is located on the 40th floor!
The hotel isn’t right in the centre of Bangkok, but very close by. That actually works out in favour of the view, because you’ll have most of the skyline to one side. And they’ve got live music up there too!
All in all, this place is certainly the least pricey upscale rooftop bar in Bangkok that we’ve come across. Even more so, if you go for sunset – which is happy hour. If you really like it there, it’s open till 1am every night.
And by the way: The hotel itself is one of the best value luxury accommodations in Bangkok as well!
Read our full review on our stay here. You’ll usually pay about 70 USD for a standard room or 80 to 90 USD for a suite, each with their own balcony. And for a tiny bit of money on top, you’ll get an amazing breakfast buffet too. Book your stay here.
Other sky bar options with good value for money are:
- Upper class: Octave Rooftop Lounge & Bar (atop of Marriott Sukhumvit, 49th floor)
- Mid class: Above Eleven (atop of Fraser Suites Sukhumvit, 33rd floor)
- Casual: Cloud 47 (atop of United Centre, 47th floor)
With ZOOM being on par with Octave, while offering better prices, you know where to head for best value!
Cloud 47 offers the best drink prices out of all of them, but isn’t all that glitzy and stylish.

Aaah. I wish I had read this post before our trip to Thailand in September. Our hotel the Millenium Hilton had a 360 sky bar but we never went to any other ones. Great tip! Thanks for sharing x
Hey Katharina!
Aww no! I guess it’s a great excuse to go back to Bangkok to try out the Anantara sky bar! We have stayed at the Millennium Hilton a few times as well, it has a great view of the city though, however the only downside is that it isn’t outdoors! 🙂

I love sky bars! For some reason Bangkok has never really appealed to me but places like this do help to put it on my bucket list! 🙂
Hey Sanne!
We love sky bars too! You should give Bangkok a go and make sure to visit some sky bars as we are sure your perception will change once you see how beautiful the city is from high above! 😀

Sky bars are my favourite. It’s magical seeing a city twinkling from that height. Definitely going to keep this place in mind for my next visit to Thailand!
Hey theCuriousPixie!
Us too, we love them! The Anantara Sathorn is definitely our favourite sky bar so far, it has amazing views of the city, a beautiful modern decor and the prices of cocktails are the cheapest we have seen in a sky bar so far! Don’t forget happy hour 😉

This bar looks gorgeous. The location of the place and the amazing views are really great. A place to enjoy the wonderfully vibrant spirit of Bangkok.
Happy Hour at Zoom Skybar looks like a hoot. The view is amazing! You’ve inspired me to do a tour of Bangkok’s rooftop bars.
The views are really great. Thanks for sharing.
