Indonesia is a very special country when it comes to hotels, and also one of our favourite ones. First of all, the most luxurious hotels in Indonesia are extremely modern. On top of that, you’ll find an outstanding number of resorts that just consist of villas. But not just any villas, we’re talking about pool villas! Most modern Indonesian hotels actually do feature private pools, so this is where it gets really interesting. We’ll show you our personal 13 favourites of the most amazing hotels in Indonesia!
We have previously done a post about some of the cheapest – and still amazing – pool villas on earth. You’ll find the article here and be amazed about how much villa you can get for your buck! You just need to know where to look and you can get them for less than US$100 a night including food. Share it with friends and you’ll be cheaper off than for a hostel bunk bed in some expensive cities!
Now let’s get to it. We’ve tried to not over-expose Bali, but it’s just impossible not to… We were indeed able to include some hotels from other islands like Java or Lombok though:
AYANA Bali Resort & Spa
The AYANA Bali offers a fantastic pool built into the rocks only meters from the Indian Ocean. In addition, further along the coast there are countless beautiful terraces set on top of the rock formations.
Banyan Tree Ungasan Bali
The gorgeous Banyan Tree Ungasan treats you with hillside pool villas to die for. Up high on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, you’ll be watching the sunset from your own infinity pool. This is the presidential villa, but you’ll get the same style and luxury in the cheaper villas as well!
The Oberoi Lombok
Lombok is located just to the east of Bali, a bit smaller, but no less beautiful. It’s home to Indonesias second highest volcano, Mount Rinjani, which provides a mountainous backdrop. At the same time, staying at the Oberoi Lombok you’ll see the Gili Islands, Bali with its many volcanos, and fantastic sunsets such as this one:
One Eleven Bali
The One Eleven, also located in Bali, consists of ultra modern luxury villas, which you’d usually find in Thailand. Being right in Seminyak, many restaurants and bars are in walking distance or just a short taxi ride away. At the same time though, it feels like a secluded haven of tranquility, peace and luxury.
Hanging Gardens Ubud, Bali
A very iconic hotel and one of the most famous Indonesian hotels overall is the Hanging Gardens in Ubud. Especially the two infinity pools on different levels with their far reaching edges are real eye-catchers not to be missed! Overlooking the sunny or mystically foggy valley from up there is definitely worth a stay at this place.
Keraton At The Plaza, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Jakarta
The Keraton At The Plaza in Jakarta is pretty much as cool as a city hotel can get. Its style is the best of all hotels in the Indonesian capital, as you can imagine looking at the picture. A few floors higher up, there is a spa area with a pool surrounded by glass walls, looking out towards the skyline of Jakarta. Very impressive! On top of that, it’s part of the SPG program with all its benefits.
Bulgari Resort, Bali
The Bulgari Resort in Bali is also built on top the cliffs of Nusa Dua, the peninsula at the southern end of Bali with a lot of luxurious hotels to choose from. Your villa at this resort won’t come without lots of complimentary Bulgari amenities, of course.
The Royal Santrian, Bali
One of the few places in Bali that actually feature pool villas along the beach. The whole resort is built into large, lush gardens, ending right at the sandy beach of Nusa Dua. So if you want your own private pool, but just a few steps away from the ocean, The Royal Santrian might be the best place to go.
Alila Uluwatu, Bali
Also located in a beautiful setting near the Banyan Tree Ungasan and the Bulgari Resort lies the Alila Uluwatu. That futuristic structure you can see leaning over the cliff edge is actually a chill out place to relax on comfortable sofas and sip on a few drinks, if it gets too hot out in the sun.
Amanjiwo, Cental Java
The Amanjiwo is one of the most majestic hotels in the country, or even in the world. The hotel which is part of AMAN Hotels lies in the hillside landscapes of Java, Indonesias main island. You can reach it by car from Yogyakarta, a beautiful place famous for its temples, in just over an hour. The name Amanjiwo actually means peaceful soul, so it’s no surprise this hotel lies right opposite a 9th century buddhist temple complex as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is actually designed like a temple itself. There are only 36 villas, many of them with a private pool and domed roofs. Together with the stunning views of the valley, you’re in for a real treat.
One picture alone doesn’t do it justice, so check it out here!
Sharma Springs, Bali
This is actually not really a hotel, you can book it on airbnb though! The eco-friendly building is constructed from bamboo and most of the materials used are recyclable. The setting on the edge of the Ayung River valley is breathtaking, especially from the little top floor working space. Just be prepared to not actually get any work done with that view! Downstairs you’ll find your own private garden with a pool. If you’re new to Airbnb, get £25 off your first stay!
Viceroy Ubud, Bali
The Viceroy in Ubud is one of the most famous hotels if not the most famous hotel in Bali and Indonesia. The setting, especially the infinity pool, is marvellous and lots of international magazines have featured it on their cover pages.
COMO Shembala Estate
Another hotel near the tropical and spiritual haven Ubud is the COMO Shembala Estate. It’s both a hotel and a residential estate that specialises in wellness, mental and physical health treatments. The public pool as well as the private pool villas (picture below) for sure know how to impress.
