Wow, how time flies. We can’t believe it’s been one whole year since we started Luxurybackpacking and that we are writing about our blog anniversary! What an amazing and life-changing ride it has been.
To celebrate, we want side track a bit from travel blogging and writing about destinations, and instead we want you guys to get to know us a bit more. So here it is:
One Year Blog Anniversary
10 Questions To Get To Know Us Better
_____________________
1.What’s your favourite country you’ve visited?
Emma: That’s a really tough question. Honestly every place I’ve visited to date has been incredible, I’ve yet to experience a place I wouldn’t revisit or travel back too. If I have to choose my top three it would be Thailand, South Africa and Australia. I also really really love Komodo Island in Indonesia which I visit last month with the Indonesian Tourism Board, it was epic witnessing the Komodo dragons, manta-rays and sharks! Check out our guide to Komodo National Park here.
Yannick: Like Emma this is a really tough question, the world is full of so many beautiful destinations, including an array that we have yet to visit. For me I can’t pick just one either, my top three currently are Thailand, the USA and South Africa. All these places have so much natural beauty and diversity.
2. If you were not travelling what would you be doing instead?
Both: If we weren’t travelling we most likely would have never met each other! We met back in 2014 in Thailand, Emma was travelling with her friend and Yannick was working in a hostel. It’s crazy to think how such small decisions can change the way you live!
Emma: Even if I wasn’t travelling I’d have just finished University in Australia (or maybe I would have stayed in the UK?!) and likely be looking at the typical 9-5 desk job back in England. This is definitely not the life for me, so I’m lucky that I won’t have to result to this!
Yannick: If I hadn’t of met Emma I’d probably be working for a travel consultant in Dubai. It doesn’t sound too bad, but agreeing with Emma, a desk job/office job just isn’t for me. We both love exploring and sharing our knowledge of travelling in luxury on a budget with others, and hopefully that is what we will continue to do!
3. If you could only take 5 items travelling (excluding clothes etc), what would they be?
Emma: My brand new Sony A7Rii with a 24-70mm lens, My Apple MacBook Pro, Unicorn Floaty, a sense of adventure and my passport 😉
Yannick: Looking at Emma’s I’d have to say a passport too I guess, My iPhone SE, Chocolate, Hairspray and Our DJI Mavic Drone
4. How do you share your work on the road? Who does what?
Emma: *laughing* I do pretty much everything!!
Yannick: Okay Okay I do admit, I have been pretty slack in our first year of starting the blog, but it’s going to change. I promise! You’ll be seeing a lot more of me on social media and across the blog.
Emma: I’ll give him credit for the photography. However, now that I have my new camera let’s see….
5. What do you dislike about each other most
Emma: His inability to partake in our travel blog and his sloth like abilities.
Yannick: I would have to say Emmas laziness when it comes to walking / hiking. Also not being able to have a beer (she doesn’t like it) is quite annoying being a German.
6. If you could design a dream holiday where would it be?
Emma: That’s a really tough question, I have so many bucket-list destinations! Before I tell you my dream holiday, I’ve got to give a few honourable mentions 😛 Flying in a hot air balloon over Cappadocia, Turkey and staying in a cave hotel is definitely up there and island hopping the Greek islands of Santorini, Zakynthos and Mykonos too! However, being really cliche and if money wasn’t an option it would have to be staying in one of the overwater villa resorts like the Four Seasons or Intercontinental in Bora Bora. Ultimate dream!
Yannick: There are so many destinations we have yet to visit, but one of my dream holidays which we ticked off in summer this year was road tripping around Nevada, California, Utah and Arizona. I love adventure and outdoor activities so hiking Angels Landing, Havasu Falls and seeing Antelope Canyon was a dream come true.
7. What are three facts about yourself that people might not know?
Emma: I used to be a national swimmer and as a result met the Queen for my achievement in it. Three years ago I moved from Oxford, England to Sydney, Australia to start University without knowing anyone. I’m absolutely terrified of spiders, pretty sure I have Arachnophobia! Wish me luck on our 6 month road trip around Australia…
Yannick: When I was 18 I moved to Thailand for 4 months and ended up working at a hostel in Koh Phangan, In 2015 before I moved to Australia, I travelled there 5 times just to visit Emma (one time I stayed just 2 nights and flew back to Europe), and I’m obsessed with chocolate.
8. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Emma: If I am still blogging and working as a social media influencer I’d love to live in either Bali or Thailand for a few years. They are both safe, the cost of living is cheap and both places have so much to offer in terms of sites. I don’t think I would ever get bored of living in either one.
If I wasn’t blogging, and had another job which meant I couldn’t work from anywhere in the world, I’d probably choose Canada or Australia.
Yannick: I really don’t know, there are so many great places I’d love to live. I’d have to try them out temporarily first and then decide.
9. What destinations have you got lined up for the end of the year and into 2018?
Both: Next week we’re heading to New Zealand for 3 weeks with Emma’s parents, and from there we are flying onto the Cook Islands for 11 nights. We land back in Sydney on Christmas Day and have friends over until just after New Year. We’re both so excited to finally watch the New Year’s Fireworks in Sydney! On the 8th January we are officially heading off on our road trip around Australia which will end at the start of June ready for Emma’s graduation ceremony. If all goes to plan, we’ll be travelling onwards to Sri Lanka, (possibly Maldives) and Kuwait before heading back to Europe. From then on, our plans are open but we’re hoping to do a road trip around Southern Europe!
