Ultimate Female Packing List

Sharing is caring!

Being a female traveller I know how hard it is to think of what to pack and bring when you’re going travelling abroad. As a result, I’m showing you guys the ultimate female packing list, and exactly what I use every time I hit the road on my next adventure!

The Osprey Farpoint is a great backpack for any traveller, it is available in 3 sizes: 40L, 55L and 70L, however I highly recommend not purchasing the 70L as you will regret it later in your travels. The 40L and 55L are virtually the same backpack the only difference is the 55L comes with a detachable 15L day bag, which is such a useful thing to have in my opinion.

Why is the Farpoint best for you?

  • Lightweight – the 55L model weighs about 4 lb (1.8kg), which is far from the heaviest of backpacks, this is so important if you are wanting to go trekking or long distances with your backpack on your back.
  • Carry on Size – Both the 40L and 55L models can be used as carry-on luggage during flights, (although, with the 55L, you might have to remove the daypack from the bag and carry it separately because it could put you over the limit. It depends on the airline).
  • Zip Away Shoulder Straps and Hip Belt – All the shoulder straps and hip belts fold and can be zipped away for safe transportation.
  • Suspension System – I believe this is very important when you’re looking for a backpack, comfort is your number 1 priority when it comes to choosing the right backpack for you, and the Osprey Farpoint is a great option for those looking for the same suspension as a hiking backpack with added comforts.
  • Carry Handles – The Farpoint has two carry handles: one on the side and one on the top. It probably doesn’t seem like a huge deal now, but these come in super handy when you’re moving your bag around.
  • Front Loader – Personally I cannot stand top loader backpacks, I made a huge mistake buying one previously and it proved to be a nightmare, so please don’t make that mistake. Front loaders are so much easier and convenient to use when grabbing your clothes and other items from your backpack.

Clothes

  • 6 x Tank tops. Check out a few great styles here (thin and simple that can match with shorts or baggy trousers)
  • 4 x Various style tops (for going out and smarter environments)
  • 1 x Hoodie/Jacket (for cooler nights and travelling on planes/buses)
  • 3/4 x Shorts (various materials including cotton, denim and mesh)
  • 4 x Dresses (I love dresses they are great for evening, going out and smarter environments)
  • 2 x Baggy Trousers (For temples and conservative environments, also good for long bus journeys)
  • 1 pair of flip flops
  • 1 pair of trainers or hiking shoes
  • 1 pair of toms or vans

Underwear and PJs

  • 12 x of underwear (Highly recommend quick drying ones which are small and light)
  • 6 x pairs of socks (mixture between trainer socks and angle socks)
  • 2 x sports bras and 3 bras (2 straps and 1 strapless)
  • 3/4 x bikinis. Some gorgeous styles here (as a girl you can never have enough)
  • 2 x PJs (thin cotton strappy top with shorts if in a warm environment)

Toiletries

  • 1 x hanging toiletry bag (so easy when in shared bathrooms, we LOVE the Hipiwe Travel Hanging Toiletry Wash Bag!)
  • Travel First Aid Kit (should always be on standby)
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Small foldable Hairbrush (like a Tangle Teaser)
  • Suncream (Recommend nothing below SPF30)
  • Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Contact Lenses (if you need them)
  • Moisturiser
  • Tweezers
  • Razor
  • Birth control for the length of your trip (if you take it)
  • Deodorant
  • Female Hygiene products (for that time of the month)
  • Makeup (But don’t go overboard as this can weight up very quickly! Much to my disappointment)
  • Coal Tablets (When food or other things disagree with you)
  • Paracetamol
  • Insect Repellent (If you get bitten to death like me, get the highest deet possible.)

However don’t fret, lots of toiletry items such as shampoo and conditioner are easily accessible when on the roads.

Other

  • 1 x Sarong (great for covering up and the beach or temples)
  • 1 x Kaftan (same idea)
  • 2 x Sunglasses (trust me you will go through many, so don’t bring expensive ones or ones you don’t want to break/loose)
  • 1 x Hat (the sun can get very strong)
  • 1 x Travel towel/Microfibre towel (very handy on longer journeys when you just want to wash your face or have an unplanned dip in the sea or swimming pool!)
  • Set of packing cubes (These are a saviour! Seriously, this is the best investment you can get if you want to pack efficiently and lightly!)
  • OPTIONAL – Silk Liner. I personally don’t travel with one but I know many people who do and couldn’t leave the house without one (great for dodgy looking bed sheets in hostels.)
  • Head torch (great to have with you after dark in dorms when you just can’t find something you’re looking for.)
  • A TSA approved padlock (important when sharing dorm rooms and securing your backpack.)
  • Pack of cards (great for hostels and drinking games.)

Admin

  • Travel Insurance. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT IT (so important, even if you think nothing will happen to you, the world is a big place and you never know whats around the corner.) We use World Nomads, and personally wouldn’t choose anyone else.
  • Passport (make sure it is valid for at least 6 months before you hit the road and always keep it in a safe place.)
  • Booking Confirmations and Flight Tickets (Most accept electronic reference saved on i-phone!)
  • Bring a few passport photos ready for use for visas (Made this mistake when travelling to Cambodia and had to pay.)
  • Photocopies of all of the above

Electronics

  • Phone and earphones (for keeping in touch with the real world and great for long bus and plane journeys – lots of places have free wifi.)
  • Camera and large memory card (camera preference is entirely personal, however if phone shots don’t do it for you, I would highly recommend the Sony A Series. We recently bought the Sony A7R ii and love it! Due to their unique technological advantages they manage to take awesome photos and videos with quick autofocus, which isn’t usually the case with the more common DSLR cameras.)
  • GoPro (great for adventure activities like Scuba Diving and surfing.)
  • Kindle (lightweight and great for avid readers providing books and travel guides.)
  • Universal Adapter (for multiple countries.)
  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display (How else can us travel bloggers keep up to date with our website!)
  • Chargers for eeeeeverything, they’re easier to leave behind than you think!

This is a super helpful list, especially because I usually end up forgetting at least one thing when I travel.
